About the WHSP Institute

The Women's Health, Sports & Performance Institute is dedicated to improving the health, performance, and long-term well-being of female athletes. We believe that optimal health and optimal performance go hand in hand. Our mission is to inspire, empower, educate, and convene researchers, clinicians, and the broader sports community to advance our understanding of female athlete health and performance.

As a growing, mission-driven organization, WHSP turns research-backed insights into practical knowledge that athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, clinicians, parents, and sports organizations can use to improve health and performance. The Institute houses a state-of-the-art physiology laboratory, a high-performance gym with 3D biomechanical analysis capabilities, a research-grade metabolic kitchen, and dedicated research space, and partners with leading universities, sports organizations, and governing bodies to deliver peer-reviewed science, clinician education, and field-shaping best practices.

Position Overview

WHSP Institute is seeking a Director of Outreach and Education to bring female athlete health and performance research into the hands of athletes, coaches, and their support teams. This person will play a central role in building WHSP's outreach function, developing educational programs, expanding awareness of WHSP's work, and creating partnerships across the sports ecosystem.

The ideal candidate is both a builder and an operator: someone who can think strategically, develop relationships, and execute with excellence in a small, fast-moving organization. This role requires strong mission alignment, credibility with athletes, coaches, and athletic trainers, comfort working with researchers and subject-matter experts, and the ability to present complex ideas with clarity and impact.

Experience as an elite athlete, while not required, would be highly valuable. Strong relationships and networks within athletics are also a plus.

Key Responsibilities

Outreach Strategy and Program Development

  • Develop and lead WHSP's outreach and education strategy, bringing female athlete health and performance research into practical use
  • Build educational programs for athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, support teams, and other key groups in the female athlete ecosystem, working independently and in partnership with universities, sports organizations, and institutional partners
  • Identify opportunities to increase WHSP's visibility and relevance across the sports community, and help define how success is measured

Education and Content

  • Work with WHSP researchers and subject-matter experts to develop and present research and clinical insights as accessible, practical content for athletes, coaches, clinicians, and support professionals
  • Lead the development of WHSP's digital education platform and curriculum
  • Develop content across channels, including webinars, newsletters, social media, the WHSP website, and other educational platforms
  • Ensure all WHSP content is accurate, credible, engaging, and accessible to non-scientific audiences

Partnerships and External Relationships

  • Identify, build, and manage partnerships with universities, athletic organizations, coaches, teams, national and international sports bodies, media, nonprofits, and other relevant stakeholders
  • Lead and steward institutional partnership agreements from initial relationship development through formal execution and partnership implementation
  • Represent WHSP externally with professionalism, warmth, and credibility at conferences, convenings, and partner meetings
  • Lead WHSP's participation and programming at major events across the women's sport and sports medicine ecosystem

Leadership and Execution

  • Serve as both a strategic leader and hands-on contributor in a small, entrepreneurial organization
  • Build and lead a growing Outreach & Education team
  • Manage WHSP’s ambassador program and Athlete Advisory Board - a founding cohort of athlete, coach, and related voices to support WHSP’s mission
  • Work closely with senior leadership and program teams to align outreach work with organizational priorities
  • Bring structure, organization, and follow-through to new initiatives and help define how success is measured

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • The successful candidate will be mission-driven, relationship-oriented, and credible in the sports world. They will be energized by the opportunity to build a new function within a growing organization and help shape the future of female athlete health education.
  • Strong candidates will bring many of the following:
  • Deep commitment to improving the health, performance, and experience of female athletes
  • Experience in athletics, sports leadership, athlete development, communications, partnerships, education, nonprofit leadership, or a related field
  • Credibility with athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and sports organizations
  • Elite athletic experience or significant experience working with high-performance athletes is a plus
  • Strong public presence and comfort speaking to external audiences
  • Ability to work effectively with researchers and experts, even without a scientific or medical background
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with expert ability to present complex ideas clearly and engagingly for non-scientific audiences
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, strong organizational skills, and comfort building programs from scratch
  • Warmth, judgment, humility, and a collaborative style
  • Comfort using digital tools, webinar platforms, newsletters, websites, and social media
  • Prior people-management experience required; 7+ years in a relevant field
  • Willingness to travel periodically as the role requires

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in women's sport, sports medicine, exercise science, or public health, professionally and/or as a competitive athlete
  • Familiarity with the women's sport ecosystem: national governing bodies, NCAA, professional leagues, athletic governing bodies
  • Experience managing digital education platforms or online content programs
  • Experience building programs from the ground up in an early-stage organization
  • Strong network in sports medicine, women's health, and/or sports science

What We Offer
